496.22 km/h – The BYD U9 Xtreme Becomes the Fastest Car in the World

At the renowned ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany, the BYD YANGWANG U9 Xtreme reached an astonishing 496.22 km/h, surpassing both the previous electric record and the 490.48 km/h top speed of the fastest petrol-powered car.

This historic run on 14 September 2025 marks a turning point for electric performance — proving that the future of speed is powered by clean, silent energy.

The Technology Behind the Record

The U9 Xtreme is not just an evolution; it’s a revolution. Every system is engineered for extreme performance and total control at unimaginable speeds.

⚡ Powertrain

  • 1,200-volt electric architecture powering four independent electric motors.

  • A combined output of 2,220 kW (over 3,000 horsepower) — making it the most powerful production car ever built.

🔋 Battery

  • Uses BYD’s advanced lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery, engineered for ultra-high discharge and stability under intense load.

🦾 Chassis & Suspension

  • Equipped with a revised DiSus-X suspension system and GitiSport e·GTR2 Pro semi-slick tyres, rated for speeds up to 500 km/h.

  • Designed for maximum stability, balance, and grip even under extreme aerodynamic forces.

🏁 Performance Engineering

  • The electric drivetrain enables instant torque and precise control.

  • “Technically, something like this is not possible with a combustion engine,” said test driver Marc Basseng. “With an EV, there are no load changes or vibration — it allows me to focus entirely on the track.”

A New Definition of the Hypercar

Only 30 units of the U9 Xtreme will be produced worldwide, making it one of the rarest and most exclusive vehicles ever made.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said:

“This is an incredibly proud moment for everyone in the R&D division. YANGWANG is a brand that doesn’t recognize the impossible, and the U9 Xtreme proves that the fastest car in the world can also be electric.”

The Future of Zero-Emission Performance

The U9 Xtreme’s record isn’t just about speed — it’s about what’s next for sustainable innovation.
Backed by BYD’s world-leading battery technology and commitment to clean mobility, YANGWANG U9 Xtreme is demonstrating that electric vehicles can surpass combustion engines in every dimension — power, precision, and passion.

The world’s fastest car now runs without a single drop of petrol — a powerful symbol of how far electric mobility has come.

iEV Insight:
At iEV, we believe innovations like the BYD U9 Xtreme inspire the entire EV ecosystem — from everyday chargers to hypercar technology.
Electric performance isn’t the future anymore — it’s already here.
