The 2025 BYD Dolphin Essential – $29,990

BYD has officially launched the Dolphin Essential variant, priced at just $29,990 before on-road costs. This milestone makes it one of the most affordable electric vehicles ever available in the Australian market.

The 2025 BYD Dolphin Essential is equipped with a 44.9kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, delivering a WLTP range of approximately 340km. It supports charging speeds of up to 7kW AC and 80kW DC fast charging. Regarding to safety, the BYD Dolphin has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP against stricter 2023-25 testing criteria.

For Australian drivers, this is a game-changing moment. Affordable EVs are no longer just on the horizon - they’re here, and they’re ready to compete with traditional petrol vehicles not only on running costs but also on purchase price.
