Tesla recently produced its 10-millionth vehicle worldwide at its Fremont factory in California.

The milestone vehicle was a Diamond Black Tesla Model Y, surrounded by Tesla employees as it came off the production line. Tesla reached its first million vehicles in 2020, meaning the company has added approximately nine million vehicles in just six years.
Tesla's global manufacturing footprint now includes major factories in the United States, China and Germany, while the company is also developing its manufacturing footprint in Mexico.
For Australian Tesla owners, the Shanghai Gigafactory is particularly important. Since 2021, Australian Model 3 and Model Y vehicles have been sourced from Tesla's Shanghai factory, with more than 180,000 Tesla cars delivered in Australia over the past 11 years.

Australia is entering a new EV era
The Tesla milestone comes at an exciting time for Australian motorists.
In August 2026, battery-electric vehicles became Australia's biggest-selling vehicle fuel type for the first time, overtaking petrol and diesel individually.
According to VFACTS data reported by carsales, battery-electric vehicles accounted for 24.9% of new-vehicle deliveries, compared with 23.7% for petrol and 21.7% for diesel.
The Model Y was Australia's best-selling vehicle overall in August, with 6,414 deliveries.
